Our Culture and History

Mada Jy story

Our journey started when I left my family in West Africa and studied in France. I was missing my parents. Preparing our drinks, as we call Ginger Lemonade, Bissap (Hibiscus flower tea), Tomidji (Tamarind tea) in my country, Ivory Coast in West Africa, and drinking it with my best friends alleviated my home sickness. My French friends were more used to traditional tropical foods and beverage like kiwi, passion fruit, and pineapple. Soon they discovered other uses of my preparations with a traditional french flair for “French Champagne Royal Kir” and as an American Cocktail foundation. I quickly was tapped to supply friends and those in my college dorm. Our journey started when I left my family in West Africa and studied in France. I was missing my parents.

Most ginger drinks were fizzy drink with ginger flavor or sweetie water flavored ginger. Ginger foods were offered as cookies or Asian style dips.Exposing taste and spiciness the West African way became my mission Over the years I realized that these drinks were not only healing my body but also my spirit to keep me close to home and the remembering the ones I love with a little taste of tradition.
